Rapid Transit Commission is established.

Created by the Massachusetts legislature, with the support of Gov. William Russell and Boston Mayor Nathan Matthews, it is subsequently located at 15 Beacon Street. Its purpose is to develop a metropolitan transit plan for Boston and 23 surrounding communities, and produces a report in 1892.*
